Look, we get it - nobody really enjoys reading privacy policies. But we're architects, not lawyers, so we'll keep this straightforward and honest about how we handle your info.
When you reach out to us or fill in contact forms on our site, we'll collect basic stuff like your name, email, phone number, and whatever details you share about your project. We need this to actually respond to you and understand what you're looking for.
If you're already a client, we'll also keep project-related documents, site photos, correspondence, and billing info. Pretty standard for running an architecture practice, honestly.
Our website also logs some technical data - IP addresses, browser type, pages you visit - through cookies and analytics. This helps us figure out what parts of the site people actually care about and what's just taking up space.
We're not in the business of selling your info. That's just not our thing. However, we do work with other professionals and services to do our job properly:
Consultants and contractors might need access to project info when we're collaborating on your build. Email and cloud storage providers host our communication and files. Accounting software processes invoices and payments. Government authorities get what's required for permits and regulatory compliance.
Everyone we work with is bound by confidentiality agreements or professional standards. If there's ever a legal requirement to disclose information, we'll let you know unless we're legally prevented from doing so.
We take reasonable precautions to protect your data. Our systems use encryption, secure servers, and access controls. Only team members who actually need access to your info have it.
That said, no system is 100% bulletproof. We do our best, but can't guarantee absolute security. If there's ever a breach that affects your data, we'll notify you promptly.
Under Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA specifically), you've got some solid rights:
You can request to see what personal info we have about you and ask us to fix anything that's wrong.
You can opt out of marketing emails anytime. Just hit unsubscribe or let us know.
Ask us to delete your info, though we might need to keep some records for legal or professional reasons.
If you think we've mishandled your privacy, you can complain to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
We hold onto your information for as long as it's needed. For active clients, that's throughout the project and afterward for warranty and liability purposes. In Ontario, we're required to keep project records for at least 10 years after completion - it's an architectural thing.
Marketing contacts who haven't engaged with us in a couple years might get pruned from our lists. General inquiries that didn't go anywhere typically get archived after a year or so.
Yeah, we use cookies. Mostly for keeping the site functional and understanding how people use it. We use Google Analytics to see which pages get traffic and where folks are coming from.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings if you want, though some parts of the site might not work as smoothly. We're not doing anything sneaky with tracking - it's really just basic website analytics.
Sometimes we'll link to other sites - maybe a supplier we work with or a building product manufacturer. Once you click through to their site, their privacy policies apply, not ours. We can't control how they handle data, so check their policies if you're concerned.
We might update this policy from time to time as our practice evolves or laws change. We'll post any changes here with a new "last updated" date. For major changes, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify existing clients directly.
If you've got questions about how we handle your privacy, or want to exercise any of your rights, just reach out. We'd rather have a conversation than leave you wondering.
